Description
Tailgate Reinforcement. Designed to redistribute the weight of your JK’s spare tire across the entire tailgate, Barricade’s HD Tire Carrier with Mount will eliminate unwanted metal fatigue caused by over sized spares. The Wrangler’s sheet metal tailgate may not be the strongest in the world, but with this big, beefy Tire Carrier in place you won’t have to worry about any undo stress or strain. Barricade’s HD Tire Carrier will not affect the daily operation of your Jeep’s tailgate.
Heavy Duty Construction. Barricade Off-Road manufactures their HD Tire Carrier and Mount from 5mm thick, hot rolled carbon steel plate for superior strength and extra rigidity. Barricade then completes the entire Carrier in a two stage finish using epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability.
Bolt-on Installation. Barricade designed their HD Tire Carrier to be a direct bolt-on upgrade for all Jeep JK. As a direct bolt-on, this Barricade Tire Carrier reuses the original factory mounting points and does not require any additional cutting, drilling, or fabrication for installation.
Application. This Barricade Heavy Duty Spare Tire Carrier with Mount is designed to reuse the factory 3rd brake light on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, including the 2-door and 4-door models.

I couldn’t be more dissatisfied with this thing. Three people have opened my tailgate since I installed this tire carrier. All three (including me) have pulled the tailgate limit/stop bar out of it’s connection. There is no limit or stop built into the hinges and, since they move the pivot point of the tailgate out a bit, the tailgate won’t open as far. Then you give it a slight nudge followed by the loud bang of the failed part. Putting the factory limit bar back together is a monstrous pain in the butt, so after the third time, I just left it off. Probably going to need to replace a taillight soon as a result.
Next thing…the instructions tell you to use the factory hardware (8 bolts) from the original tire mount to secure this one. The factory washers are too small for the mounting holes in the new mount. As you tighten them, they bend into the holes. This requires a trip to the hardware store to get larger washers.
Last…this thing bounces so much at the latch that you’d swear that someone is throwing pots and pans at the back of your jeep.
And although it’s not a product failure, the nice little Terra Flex CB antenna mount that I had on my factory tire carrier won’t fit on this one. No CB antenna, no CB. Would have been nice to know that. In summary, spend the extra money and get a bumper/tire carrier combo. It was an absolute mistake to buy this tire carrier.

Make the job, seems to lock durable, terrible instructions to install. if you wanna save some money I think this is the best option comparing with other brands in the same range price, personally in this class in think the Terraflex is the one to get.

Very stout carrier. It is super heavy but the tire stays nice and snug to the tailgate. I’m running a 35 and it seems perfect. No more tailgate rattle now! I deducted 1 star since the tailgate now opens up so much that the tire touches the passenger tail light. Will need to rig up a limiting strap…

This is a great tire carrier . High quality. Just what I needed .

Reader’s digest version- it’s heavy duty, cheaper than the competition, and allows me to adjust the position of my 35″ spare low and close to the tailgate.
Detailed review and my experience with install-
The tire carrier seems to be well built. It’s very heavy duty construction, and the welds look alright. It has the rough powder coat finish- we’ll see if it holds up to a Colorado winter. It will come with all the required materials to install (except tools) and then some. It came with 3 spacers for the passenger side of the tailgate, and the instructions said to use the thick spacer for the bottom and thin spacer for the top. I used the thinnest and the thickest, and it seems to fit other than the tailgate check strap/door stop pulled completely out of the tub the first time I opened the tailgate. Really hoping this was my error and not a poorly fitting product created by Barricade. I’ll update my review once my new check strap comes in and I can verify it was my error and not the tailgates improper fitment for stock tailgates.
