Smooth, Slow Operation. Barricade’s Tailgate Assist uses a damping strut to slowly and smoothly open your RAM’s tailgate when unlatched, preventing it from just dropping open with a loud bang. The Tailgate Assist is perfect for those times when you only have one free hand to open your tailgate.
Simple, Bolt-on Installation. Barricade designed their Tailgate Assist to be a direct bolt-on upgrade reusing existing factory mounting points. There is no drilling or modifications required for a simple straight forward install. With just a set of basic hand tools this Barricade Tailgate Assist can be installed in less then 30 minutes.
Application. The Barricade Tailgate Assist is designed to fit all 2002-2008 RAM 1500 models.

Took my son and I about 15 mins from start to finish. Compared to the Mopar equivalent, which is 4-6 times more expensive, this does the trick for me. It works just as my Mopar strut did, but I can see why folks are having issues with longevity. For the price though, this strut cannot be beat. Would not recommend for anyone who uses their tailgate daily, but definitely recommend for everyone else.

02 Ram 1500 . It works . The instructions are garbage. An the plastic piece they give you to put on factory cable is too small, but you can get away without it. The washer it tells you to remove can’t be removed on this truck. Take a screwdriver an your hammer an bend the tab out of the way. All in all it does what it’s suppose to.

Easy to install but very slow to open in the cold winter days.

I went to install this product on my Ram 1500 (2006). Instructions are garbage. Bolt / nut assembly was stripped and broke when putting on rendering it useless. Save your money. Clearly a case of you get what you pay for – avoid it at all costs. Now it is in my garbage – waste of time! Buy a name brand to avoid this happening to you.

Works good and easy to install. Makes it a lot easier to open the tailgate with things in your hand.
